Next company operating windows
Late 2026 / early 2027 · Berlin production and launch
The September 22 plan targets first Berlin satellite completion before year-end and first Berlin-built Pelican launch on Isar Spectrum in early 2027. These are company windows conditional on testing and readiness.
The fiscal third quarter ended October 31; quarter end is not a results-release date, and as of November 4 the company had not announced the results date. September guidance calls for $101M–$105M revenue and $30M–$37M capex for that quarter. The next financial disclosure must reconcile collections, deployment and investment.

Where Planet Labs stands now
July cash and short-term investments were $865.418M, excluding restricted cash. H1 operating cash flow was positive $68.388M and free cash flow $21.297M. The $460M convertible principal and larger fleet spending remain claims on future cash; backlog includes cancellable amounts.
Growing contracts and positive cash flow still require disciplined fleet investment.
In brief: October-quarter guidance is lower than the July result, capital spending is rising, backlog fell in the first half and part of the cash came from customer advances and share issuance. Delays in Berlin or in commissioning, or a slower pace of new orders, would leave more capacity waiting for revenue, while the convertibles, the June 2026 ATM program and employee awards could add shares. The full bear case is in the archived report’s Scenarios chapter. Source Source
The constructive case
In brief: defense and intelligence demand is turning into larger contracts, the July quarter came in above guidance with positive adjusted EBITDA, and the first half produced free cash flow while investment rose. If Berlin meets its windows and new firm orders replace the work being delivered, growth could fund more of the fleet with less reliance on share sales. The full bull case and its conditions are in the archived report’s Scenarios chapter. Source Source Source

Pelican-12 launched on Bandwagon-5; initial contact made, commissioning under way
Planet announced on October 20, 2026 the launch of Pelican-12, an updated second-generation high-resolution Pelican, on SpaceX's Bandwagon-5 rideshare mission from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. The company said it has made initial contact with the satellite and has begun commissioning it and lowering its orbital altitude. Planet counts this as its 25th satellite sent to orbit in 2026, across four launches, and the fifth Pelican launched this year. Pelican-12 carries a prototype communication package to test downlinking imagery through SES's O3b mPOWER satellites and an NVIDIA Jetson platform for onboard edge computing; second-generation Pelicans are designed for imagery of up to 30 cm class. Planet reiterated that Pelican production is scheduled to start this year at its expanded Berlin facility and that additional Pelican launches are planned for 2027. A satellite in commissioning is not yet delivering data to customers, and the release attaches no contract or revenue figure to this spacecraft.

ESA selects Sinergise to build Slovenia’s Space Resilience Node
Planet’s subsidiary Sinergise Solutions was selected by the European Space Agency, under Element 2 of the European Resilience from Space Earth Observation program, to build the Slovenia Space Resilience Node for the country’s Administration for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief, part of the Ministry of Defence, with software company Lucis as partner. The 12-month pilot covers about 20,000 square kilometers and starts with wildfire management: open Copernicus data and PlanetScope imagery are analyzed automatically, and the system triggers high-resolution tasking, including Pelican satellites, when anomalies are detected. Cash, monthly cash generation and the runway question
At July 31, 2026, Planet held $415.130 million of cash and cash equivalents and $450.288 million of short-term investments, a calculated combined $865.418 million. Restricted cash was separate: $1.891 million current and $6.607 million noncurrent, totaling a calculated $8.498 million. Restricted balances are not part of ordinary spending capacity. The securities portfolio is also identified separately from bank cash, even though it contributes to available financial resources. Source
For the six months ended July 31, 2026, operations generated $68.388 million of cash. Cash purchases of property and equipment were $44.656 million and capitalized internal-use software consumed another $2.435 million. Subtracting both produces free cash flow of $21.297 million, consistent with the company’s reconciliation. Dividing these historical half-year figures by six gives average monthly operating cash generation of approximately $11.40 million and free cash generation of approximately $3.55 million. These are calculated historical averages, not monthly forecasts. Source Source
Backlog, remaining obligations and the conversion test
At July 31, 2026, Planet reported $814.863 million of backlog and $753.117 million of remaining performance obligations, or RPO. The difference was $61.746 million of cancellable contract value. At January 31, 2026, backlog was $900.427 million and RPO $852.435 million. The July balances were therefore below the fiscal-year opening balances, despite the strong revenue growth reported for the intervening half year. Source Source
Backlog can decline when deliveries turn orders into revenue, when contracts change or when new awards do not replenish recognized work quickly enough. A decline is not automatically bad, but a company cannot rely indefinitely on conversion without replacing the business. The relevant evidence is the relationship between delivery, new funded commitments and customer retention, rather than the direction of a single headline metric.
