Merlintrader’s Daily Briefing
Monday, August 3, 2026, evening edition. The prices below are intraday, taken around 2:00 p.m. New York time with the US session still open, and are flagged as such throughout. One decision set the tone: President Trump called off a planned strike on Iran to pursue a deal on reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and the war premium came out of crude in a single move. Oil fell about 5% below $80 a barrel, the 10-year Treasury yield dropped 6 basis points to 4.684%, and equities rallied broadly with AI and cloud names in front. The July ISM manufacturing survey printed 55.6, the strongest reading since May 2022. Palantir reports after the close; Friday’s payrolls report is still the week’s real test.
- Iran — President Trump suspended a planned military strike and said fresh negotiations with Tehran would begin, telling reporters that regional allies including Saudi Arabia had urged Washington to pursue diplomacy. Iran denied direct talks with the United States while saying discussions with Oman were making progress on shipping through the strait.Geopolitics
- Crude — US benchmark crude fell about 5% to below $80 a barrel. The oil tracker $USO traded at $121.36, down 6.05%, and the energy sector fund $XLE at $58.81, down 1.25% — the only major group in the red on a broadly higher tape.Energy
- Treasuries — The 10-year note yield fell 6 basis points to 4.684% as the energy shock unwound. The long-bond fund $TLT was flat at $82.22, so the move was concentrated in the belly of the curve rather than the very long end.Bonds
- Yen — The weekend confirmation that Tokyo and Washington acted jointly on the currency — the first coordinated yen-buying operation since 2011 — remains the second live macro variable, because Japanese portfolio flows are a material buyer of the US long end.FX
- Indexes — Around 2:00 p.m. ET the S&P 500 tracker $SPY stood at $758.07, up 1.48%; the Nasdaq-100 tracker $QQQ at $701.01, up 1.89%; the Dow tracker $DIA at $530.48, up 1.17%; and the small-cap tracker $IWM at $296.05, up 1.67%. These are intraday levels, not closing prints.Wall Street
- ISM manufacturing — The July Manufacturing PMI registered 55.6%, against a 54.0% consensus and 53.3% in June, the highest reading since May 2022. New orders were 56.7%, production jumped to 58.5% from 52.2%, and employment returned to expansion at 52.8% for the first time in nearly three years.Macro
- Megacaps — $AMZN traded at $283.73, up 4.47%, extending Friday’s cloud-driven move, while $AAPL was at $306.09, down 0.91%, still carrying its guidance problem. $NVDA stood at $208.29, up 3.76%.Big Tech
- Semis — $AMD was at $488.98, up 2.69%, ahead of its own results on Tuesday, and $MU at $834.06, up 1.34%. The semiconductor fund $SMH traded at $547.30, up 1.25%, lagging the Nasdaq on the day.Semis
Biotech Catalyst Calendar 2026
Last updated: 22 July 2026Merlintrader tracks upcoming biotech catalysts for U.S.-listed companies, including PDUFA dates, FDA decisions, clinical-trial readouts, advisory committee meetings and other regulatory milestones. Alongside each date you will find the source, company context and the key risks that can move the stock, plus links to deeper Merlintrader research when it is available. The focus is educational and risk-aware, with particular attention to small and mid-cap biotech names, where catalyst timing, cash runway and dilution risk can drive sharp moves in volatility. Dates can change and FDA decisions can arrive early or late, so always confirm an event against company filings and regulatory sources before acting on it.
Weekly Biotech Catalyst Tracker
Window covered: July 31 → September 30, 2026. Compact homepage board for unresolved FDA decisions, regulatory submissions and major clinical readouts. A prior-date item remains visible only when the regulatory outcome has not yet been publicly disclosed. October and later events are excluded from this widget.
$NRXPKETAFREEJul 29*Pending
GDUFA goal passed; public FDA outcome pendingNRx Pharmaceuticals. The FDA-assigned July 29 GDUFA goal date for the KETAFREE preservative-free IV ketamine ANDA has passed. As of the July 31 update, no approval, tentative approval or complete response had been publicly disclosed by the company, so the item remains active as an unresolved regulatory watch. This is an ANDA event, not a PDUFA for NRX-100 or NRX-101.

PDUFA after 9–3 negative efficacy voteCapricor. The BLA remains under FDA review for the treatment of DMD cardiomyopathy, but the July 29 advisory committee voted 9–3 that the available evidence did not provide substantial evidence of effectiveness. FDA is not legally bound by the vote, yet the combination of the negative panel recommendation, disputed endpoint analyses and prior CRL history makes the August 22 decision an extreme-risk regulatory event.

Most attention-worthy watchlist
Board rule
Only unresolved catalysts through September are shown. Past events are removed once an outcome is publicly confirmed; a passed target date may remain visible when the FDA action has not yet been disclosed. $NRXP therefore remains marked Pending after its July 29 KETAFREE GDUFA goal date. October and later events are intentionally excluded. $NUVL was acquired by GSK and ceased trading, so the September zidesamtinib catalyst is shown under $GSK. Events carrying only Q3 guidance must be rechecked against company filings before trading around them.
